Pedestrian signals
What it does
Pedestrian signals identifies whether the pedestrian signal ahead is red or green and detects the direction of the crosswalk. It uses speech, vibration, and sound effects to help you judge when to cross. Recognition runs locally on your phone and doesn't need an internet connection.
When to use it
When you reach a crossing and can't hear an audible signal or aren't sure of the light's state, point your phone camera toward the pedestrian signal ahead to check whether it is red or green. Recognition is only an aid. Check nearby vehicles and actual road conditions before crossing.
How to use it
Open the feature and hold the phone with the camera pointing toward where the pedestrian signal is likely to be. The phone continuously recognizes signals in the live camera view; you do not need to keep taking photos. Tap the screen to stop detection.
When a signal is recognized, alerts work as follows:
When crosswalk markings are recognized, the phone suggests a slight adjustment to the left or right, or tells you to keep straight, based on their direction. When both a reliable signal and crosswalk markings are recognized, signal alerts take priority so the announcements do not interrupt each other.
If several signals appear in the frame, the phone describes their relative distances, for example, “Red signal nearby, green signal farther away.” Repeated speech, vibration, and sound alerts stop automatically when the signals disappear from view. There is no alert sound when no signal is recognized.
This feature works offline, with all recognition performed on the phone. The camera uses automatic exposure; you do not need to switch manually between day and night modes.
Important safety information: This feature provides assistance only and cannot replace your judgment of the actual traffic conditions. Recognition can be affected by the phone's direction, obstructions, distance, and the surroundings. Before crossing, listen for nearby vehicles and audible crossing signals, and assess the actual road conditions. Cross only after confirming that vehicles have stopped and your direction of travel is safe. Do not decide whether to cross solely from the phone's red or green announcement. Complex surroundings and darkness can also affect camera recognition. Failure to detect a signal does not mean it is safe to cross.
