Heading deviation alerts
What it does
Heading deviation alerts compares the direction your phone is pointing with the direction of the route during walking navigation. If the difference exceeds the selected angle, the phone announces how many degrees you are pointing to the left or right, helping you correct your direction promptly.
When to use it
Turn it on if you are unsure whether you are aligned with the route or worry about gradually drifting off course. If alerts are too frequent or arrive too late, adjust the angle that triggers them.
How to use it
Turn alerts on or off: Use the “Deviation” button on the walking navigation screen at any time.
Receive an alert: When the phone's heading differs from the route by more than the selected angle, it announces how many degrees you are pointing to the left or right. When you realign with the route, it says “Direction correct.” If “Vibration feedback” is enabled in Navigation settings, the alerts also include vibration.
Adjust the alert angle: The default is 45 degrees. Choose 30, 45, 60, or 90 degrees, or turn alerts off. Smaller angles trigger alerts more readily; larger angles trigger them only when the difference is more pronounced.
Check the angle yourself: The “Deviation” button displays the current difference in degrees as it changes. Even with automatic alerts off, touch the button to check the current angle.
