Elevator floors
What it does
Elevator floors helps you tell when an elevator reaches your destination floor. It uses your phone's built-in barometer to detect whether the elevator is going up or down and how much the height has changed. When you reach the target floor, your phone alerts you with both speech and vibration.
When to use it
Use this feature to keep track of floors when an elevator at home, at work, or in a public place you often visit has no spoken floor announcements.
How to use it
This feature runs entirely on your phone and works offline.
Before using it in a building, calibrate the floors. Stand outside the elevator doors on the starting floor and the destination floor, and tap “Calibrate” at each one. The phone records the air pressure as a reference for identifying the floor. Calibration can be reused, so you do not need to repeat it each time you use the elevator in the same building.
To set up announcements for more floors in the building, repeat the calibration on each floor you want announced. In principle, if every floor is calibrated, the phone can announce the corresponding floor whenever the elevator doors open on later trips.
For everyday use:
During the ride, the mute button silences background music and spoken announcements. Vibration alerts and the floor number on screen still work. Your mute preference is remembered for the next use.
Your phone needs a barometer for this feature. If it does not have one, the page tells you. Keep the app in the foreground while using the feature. Detection stops automatically if you switch to another feature or Doeviz goes into the background.
For calibration, the starting and destination floors must be different, and there must be a sufficiently clear difference in air pressure between them. If the difference is too small, the phone asks you to calibrate again. Follow the instructions to repeat the process.
